WINDSOR FURNITURE BANK
It’s back! Just over a year ago we had to close the doors of our Furniture Bank, an initiative that helped over 1500 individuals access gently used furniture. It started in April of 2016 with the hope of helping turn houses and apartments into homes for Windsor’s newcomer population. Over 500 Syrian refugee families were helped through the efforts of volunteers who drove the Windsor Furniture Bank truck across the city picking up gently used furniture. It was then stored in a showroom for families and individuals to visit and select the furniture they would like.
Habitat For Humanity is spearheading this new incarnation of the Windsor Furniture Bank, overseeing the pickup and sales of gently used furniture. An Ontario Trillium Foundation grant for $75,000 has given this great initiative a second life. The DWCC and Matthew House will be partnering with Habitat for Humanity on this project, and will be point for individuals and families to get access to Habitat’s ReStore gift cards for the purpose of buying much needed furniture.
