A lighthouse provides light to warn the ships at sea and guides them onto the right path, often during a storm or in a time of darkness. The Glengarry Lighthouse, located in the courtyard at Wheelton Manor on 333 Glengarry Ave. is similar to a lighthouse, by guiding others away from the darkness and into the light.
Partnered with the Community University Partnership, Community Housing Corporation and Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative, the lighthouse acts as a safe place for people who grew up without any guidance or haven’t been taught basic life skills.
“I see hope in this community. I just wanted to be a part of something I knew was going to be a positive thing for me,” said Adrienne Brown who is one of the leaders at the lighthouse. The light house supplies breakfast and lunch, as well as dinners on Wednesdays at the Chateau Maison, with help from the city. The City of Windsor has also provided a pantry for the lighthouse, as well as extra storage for sports equipment such as volleyball nets and tennis gear.
