Currently there are 4 neighbourhood renewal organizations working in urban areas across Windsor. These are the 4 partners working together to create barrier-free opportunities for sport and physical activity to community members: Our West End Neighbourhood Renewal, Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative, The Initiative: Glengarry to Marentette, and Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal.
Physical activity and sport participation are a challenge for many residents in Canada. Existing barriers to traditional programming include cost, transportation, or health issues. SPORT 4 ALL works to remove any participant identified barriers to create local neighbourhood opportunities for an active lifestyle.
Each program and opportunity is unique to the residents and community members it serves and works to gain continual feedback on what makes each opportunity more accessible than traditional options. The goal of the program is to increase the number of active people in the community by creating more neighbourhood-focused opportunities.
The programming will focus on those whose physical activity needs are not met by traditional programming and work in unique ways to create a barrier-free positive participation environment. The hope is also that the program will provide a source of advocacy for community members and help influence policies and procedures that will make physical activity more accessible and sustainable in the community.
The Sport 4 All Program is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. An agency of the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. With a budget of over $136 million, OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities.
