WHAT WE DO
There are three main areas that we are active in the downtown. The first area is our community engagement. Our community engagement occurs through resident led initiatives such as Breakfast Club at Dougall Public School, community gardens at a number of different parks, resident’s groups, barrier free sports through Sport 4 All, neighbourhood cleanups, movie nights in Bruce Park, and a number of other local initiatives.
The second area is our lighthouse network. A lighthouse is any home that has committed to being a faithful life-giving presence in the neighbourhood. The core concepts of a lighthouse are living in the neighbourhood (faithful presence), seeing the beauty of the neighbourhood and dreaming about the possibilities of it (hopeful imagination), advocating for the neighbourhood and opening your home up to others (engagement), as well as finding others who share the same passion and enthusiasm for the downtown (partnership). The real strength of this is the network of lighthouses that support one another in making the downtown a good place to grow up and a good place to grow old.
The third area is our soulful practices. The intent behind our soulful practices is to provide intentional spaces to reflect, to breathe in, to pause, and to renew ourselves for the sake of the work of community engagement and being a lighthouse. Both of these can be hard work, and so our soulful practices are meant to reenergize us to keep going. It is worth saying that these practices are rooted in the Christian faith.
